How TopLiner handles information

Last updated: 1 November 2026

TopLiner ranks film stars and directors by box office. This page says what information we handle, why, who helps us handle it, and what you can ask us to do. We have tried to keep it plain.

Who we are

TopLiner is run by Kobestarr Engineering and Media Limited (“we”), registered in England and Wales, company number 07645453. Our registered office is 80 Ashton Road, Denton, Manchester, M34 3JF. For anything on this page, write to hello@topliner.film. Under UK data protection law we are the controller of the information described here.

The short version

  • You do not need an account to use TopLiner, and there is no sign-up.
  • TopLiner uses cookies and similar tools for visitor statistics, error monitoring and advertising measurement. Anything that uses cookies, or follows you across other sites, only runs after you agree.
  • We collect a little information only when you visit, when you flag a figure, or when you email us.
  • We do not sell information about you.

What we collect, and why

When you visit

Like any website, our host records technical details about each request: your IP address, the browser and device you use, the page you asked for, and the time. We use this to keep the site running and to spot abuse and attacks. Our host keeps these logs for a limited time.

Film posters on our pages are loaded straight from the film database that supplies them (image.tmdb.org). Your browser asks that server for the picture, so it can see your IP address too. Everything else on the page, including the fonts and the portraits, comes from us.

When you flag a figure

Every number on TopLiner has a flag button. If you use it, we store what you flag, the reason you give, any figure you suggest, and your email address if you choose to add one. We use this to check the figure and, if you gave an address, to reply to you. We never publish your email address or share it with anyone. Leaving it blank is fine.

We keep a flag until we have dealt with it, and the email address on it for up to 12 months after that. Then we delete the email address.

When you email us

If you write to hello@topliner.film we keep your message and your email address for as long as we need to answer you and keep a record of what was said.

Why we are allowed to

For visit logs and error reports, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and protecting the site and fixing faults. For flags and emails, we rely on your choice to contact us, and on our legitimate interest in keeping our figures right. For visitor statistics, recordings and advertising tools, we rely on your consent.

Who handles it for us

  • Vercel hosts the website, and so holds the visit logs described above.
  • Supabase hosts our database, which holds flags and the figures themselves.
  • The film database behind image.tmdb.org serves the poster pictures, as described above.
  • Google (Tag Manager and Analytics), Microsoft (Clarity) and Sentry, for the tools described under cookies below, once you agree where that applies.
  • Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, X and Pinterest, for their measurement pixels, only if you agree.

Some of these providers may handle information outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards in their own data terms. We do not give your information to anyone else, except where the law requires it.

Cookies and similar tools

A cookie is a small file that a website saves in your browser. TopLiner uses the tools below. Anything that uses cookies or similar identifiers, measures how you use the site, or follows you across other sites only runs after you agree through our cookie settings. You can say no, and you can change your mind at any time. The site works the same either way.

  • Google Tag Manager loads the other tools below, once you agree. It is run by Google.
  • Google Analytics counts visits and shows us which pages people use and how they found us. It is run by Google.
  • Microsoft Clarity shows us how people move around a page, such as where they tap and scroll, as heatmaps and replays. It is run by Microsoft. We keep the flag form out of recordings.
  • Sentry tells us when something on the site breaks. It receives technical details about the fault: the page, your browser and device, and your IP address.
  • Advertising and social pixels from Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, LinkedIn, X and Pinterest tell those services when someone from them visits TopLiner, so we can see whether our posts and any adverts work. They can link your visit to your account with that service.

These tools are run by other companies, who handle information under their own privacy policies. We choose settings that collect as little as possible. If we add another tool of this kind, we will name it here first.

The people we write about

TopLiner is a record of public facts about film professionals: their name, their public credits, the box office their films earned, and in some cases a date of birth that is already public. These come from published sources, which we list on our methodology page. We publish them as an editorial project in the public interest, and on the basis of our legitimate interest in running it.

If you are named on TopLiner and something is wrong, or you want something removed, tell us. Use the flag button next to the figure, or email hello@topliner.film. We will look at every request and answer it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • let you see what information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete your information;
  • limit how we use it;
  • stop using it, if you object to how we use it.

Email hello@topliner.film and we will reply within one month. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would like the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle information, we will change this page first and update the date at the top.
